TIPS for New Year's Weight Loss and Fitness Success

If you are like me the last part of 2008 was full of foods that you don't normally eat and less activity than normal. Well I am here to give you some tips that can help us all get back on track and make this the fittest year yet!

1-Make a decision to throw out the leftover candy, sweets etc. I know it seems like waste but at least it won't end up on your "waist." Then eliminate the things from your diet that will hinder progress. Soda, alcohol and other calorie dense junk. Total elimination for a time will make you feel and look better.

2-
Commit now, commit to yourself and verbalize to a friend, spouse or other significant person in your life. This will give you a level of accountability.

3-
Now that you have committed, write down some goals, specific ones. Simply saying, "lose weight" is not it, say I want to lose X number of pounds by a certain date. Give yourself a written target & timeline.

4-
Add in some for of strength training to your exercise program. Build some muscle & burn some fat.

5-
Get a heart rate monitor to regulate your exercise intensity. Having a visual reference will ensure you don't go into cruise mode during your cardio workouts and will help you go harder!

Make up your mind to have a great and successful year!

Fitness Boot Camps Part II

As I told you in Part I of this post fitness boot camps have been around for years and have been featured in the national news all over the U.S. This type of training is very functional and based on basic movements and exercises used by U.S. military branches to condition our troups. For more details defining fitness boot camps refer to the first part of this blog entry.

In addition to the benefits pointed out in Part I this section will shed some light on some additional benefits of this training format and why you should be a part of one.

1. Every work out is unique and different than the one before. Exercise intensity constantly changes and offers a new "shock to your body." Some have referred to this as muscle confusion. The end result is that your body gets progressively stronger, more powerful and more lean. If you like constant change and would like to bring an end to your mundane, gym treadmill workouts then boot camp is for you!

2. As previously mentioned boot camp programs are based largely on methods used in military training. However, every exercise is adaptable and modifiable to meet the needs of any age group or fitness level. I have worked with clients from 11 years to 65 years old. The flexibility options in these programs are endless so no matter where you are in life you CAN do this!

3. Boot camp programs are highly effective at achieving fast weight loss and conditioning. Therefore, a money back guarantee is in order. My guarantee gives you the chance to try it out risk free, with nothing to lose. So what are you waiting for?

Try this sample boot camp work out you can do most anywhere as you need no equipment to complete the exercises.

First, start with a 5-10 minute warm up of walking or jogging with some light stretching. Then perform these exercises in a circuit. Repeat this circuit as many times as possible in 20 minutes. Beginners scale time back to 10 minutes if necessary.

-25 squats
-run hard 100 yards
-15 pushups
-run 100 yards
-10 pullups
-run 100 yards
-10 burpees

The list of benefits and rewards of boot camp fitness programs could go on and on. It is my hope that entry can shed some light on how boot camps can affect your life in a positive way. What is a Fitness Boot Camp and Why Should I Enlist?

You may or may not be familiar with one of the hottest trends in fitness today. Fitness boot camps began on the West Coast and have made their way here to Wilmington NC. They have been featured in the national news media including CNN, Fox News and the American Council on Exercise recently published a study about them.

Boot camps offer similar benefits as personal training but at a huge reduction in cost. People that do them get hooked immediately because they work and produce results and because they are done in a group environment they push performance to levels beyond normal limitations. The camraderie built in this environment is priceless and is a big part of the success of people involved.

Work outs are done outdoors most of the time so there is a completely different feel to this type of work out. Boot camp gets people out of the mundane and closed walls of the gym. They put to death the boring repetition of the treadmill and mix in various circuits of body weight exercisees like running, jumping, pushups, pullups, squat thrusts, mountain climbers and the list goes on. We also use various objects of torture such as kettlebells, medicine balls & sandbags. Pretty much anything goes but it certainly isn't boring!

Simply put, boot camps are the most effective and affordable fitness offering on the market today. If you are up for losing some weight, making some friends & getting in the best shape of your life then you have found what you are looking for! I will write more about this type of exercise but in the mean time check out the video below to see how boot camp goes. Check out www.montysbootcamp.com for details.
